We are kinda anxious to see if we can really fly to Germany on St. Stephan's day this week. Dublin airport was closed today for another 4 hours to allow crews to remove snow and ice from the runway. Anyway, we will twitter live from our journey on Sunday to report how it progresses... Wir sind ziemlich gespannt zu sehen, ob wir am 2. Weihnachtstag wirklich nach Deutschland fliegen können. The weather situation across Europe is really concerning, especially close to Christmas. Ireland experiences its coldest winter since records began (Sunday night temperatures as low as -18 degrees). As we intend to fly into Germany on next Sunday we really hope that snow and ice will ease.     Die Wettersituation in ganz Europa ist wirklich unbeschreiblich, gerade auch nun mit Weihnachten um die Ecke. In Irland gibt es zur Zeit den kältesten Winter seit Beginn der Aufzeichnungen (Sonntagnacht wurden Temperaturen von -18 Grad gemessen).  Wir beabsichtigen am nächsten Sonntag nach Deutschland zu fliegen und hoffen das Schnee und Eis bis dahin kein Problem mehr darstellen.

With more than 75 million records sold, Meat Loaf (born as Marvin Lee Aday) is truly a Rock n' Roll legend. Hits like "Bat Out Of Hell", "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" and of course "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" are simply immortal. Support comes from his daughter Pearl and band. We are back in Dublin with one delay as our return flight on Monday was cancelled due to snow blizzard in Düsseldorf.     Wir sind wieder in Dublin mit einem Tag Verspätung da unser Flug am Montag aufgrund von Schnee und Eis in Düsseldorf annuliert wurde. 

Next up will be another city break, the last one before Christmas. Germany's fourth largest city Cologne is the destination on the upcoming weekend.  Am kommenden Wochenende brechen wir zu unserem letzten Citybreak vor Weihnachten auf. Deutschland's viertgrösste Stadt Köln wird das Ziel sein.

The Irish government will publish the highly anticipated budget plan for 2011 later today. In 2008, they introduced a very controversial 2% income levy which affects every employee and in addition a 2% raise in overall VAT. The entire nation looks forward to this even because this budget is very sensitive in respect of the 85 billion Euro bailout.  Heute wird die irische Regierung den Haushaltsplan für 2011 verabschieden bzw. veröffentlichen. 2008 gab es eine sehr kontroverse 2% "Zusatz-Einkommenssteuer", welche jeden Arbeitnehmer betrifft und noch eine 2% Mehrwertsteuer-Erhöhung obendrauf. Next Tuesday, December 7th, 2010 we will head off to Dublin's Olympia Theatre to see Australian Rock n' Roll hopefuls Airbourne live in concert. Airbourne's main influences are clearly Australian hard rock bands like AC/DC and Rose Tattoo and they are well known for energetic live shows around the globe.    Am kommenden Dienstag, 7. Ireland experiences it's coldest November since 1947 with temperatures as low as -10 degrees overnight and heavy snowfall. Driving conditions are terrible as winter tires are fully unknown here.     Irland erfährt den kältesten November seit 1947 mit Temperaturen von bis zu -10 Grad und Schneefall in der Nacht. The current situation in Ireland reached its climax - the green island (also formerly known as 'Celtic Tiger') receives an international rescue package with a value up to 90 billion Euro. Ireland is now the second country after Greece that requested such a package. The bankruptcy is the main topic in the media globally as you can see in the video below which was posted by German online newspaper stern.de .  Die aktuelle Situation in Irland hat nun ihren Höhepunkt erreicht. A last tour stop has been added to a very busy year of travelling - a spontaneous trip to Cologne on December 12, 2010.    Ein allerletzter Tourstop für dieses Jahr ist gerade dazugekommen - ein spontaner Trip führt uns am 12. Dezember nach Köln.

It's been only a week since we arrived back in Dublin after 2.5 weeks on the American interstates on a journey that began and ended in Chicago with it's stunning  architectural skyline. On our way to Caroline's brother's (John) family in Columbus Ohio, our first stop was Indianapolis. From then on, we always returned to John's family in between our city tours to spend time with John's kids, who were just so adorable. We also visited a friend of Caroline's in Toronto, Canada, which allowed us to stop by the extremely interesting Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland as well the gigantic Niagara Falls. On our way to Washington DC, we managed to spend a few nights in Pittsburgh (where we enjoyed dinner at the local Hofbräuhaus!), Baltimore as well as Columbia in Maryland. We had planned a trip to Cincinnati but had to turn back half-way due to a Tornado (we were literally locked up in one of the shopping outlets for an hour, which wasn't good for our cr

2,930 miles (or 4,715 kilometers) is the total distance we traveled in North America within the last two and a half weeks. After completing our trip with visits in Pittsburgh, PA and Washington, DC we're now back in Dublin since this morning. Just another update on our vacation in North America. As you might know (when you follow us on Twitter ) that we were forced to cancel our trip to Cincinnati due to extreme weather conditions on Tuesday and we wanted to re-schedule it to last Sunday. However, by the end we decided not to go at all. On Wednesday we traveled up to Cleveland to visit the famous "Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame" (really worth a visit). Following that we continued our journey towards northeast to the spectacular Niagara Falls on the border between the State Of New York and Ontario in Canada. We finished up this roundtrip with a visit in Toronto. Next up, we will head off to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before we will reach the last station of our 'North America Tour 2010': Washington, DC. We're now in the US for a couple of days, visited Chicago, Indianapolis, Reynoldsburg and Columbus so far. The weather is pretty good, around 20 degrees. Now we are spending a few days with Caroline's family before heading to Cincinnati on Tuesday.          Wir sind nun schon ein paar Tage in den USA. So weit besuchten wir Chicago, Indianapolis, Reynoldsburg und Columbus. Das Wetter ist recht schoen mit milden 20 Grad. Jetzt verbringen wir ein paar Tage mit Caroline's Familie bevor es am Dienstag nach Cincinnati geht.

In 2006, German Folk Metal pioneers Subway To Sally unplugged their instruments the first time to go on an acoustic tour across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The followed concert DVD 'Nackt' was released shortly afterwards and reached Gold in Germany. Due to phenomenal reception of this experiment, the band decided to go on tour the second time in spring 2010 with a fully different set list. This tour was consequently named 'Nackt II'. The result of this tour can be viewed from October 22, 2010 when ' Nackt II ' will be released on DVD. You may watch a snippet below. Once we return from America, we will face two months full of live gigs. On November 25 we will attend a concert of Danish rockers Volbeat at Dublin's "Academy". Followed by an energy-loaded gig from Australian newcomers and rock n' roll hopefuls Airbourne at the "Olympia Theatre" on December 7. On Saturday, December 18, we will see American bombastic rock legend Meat Loaf live in concert at the "O2". The round up these two months, we will get the chance to see German folk metal pioneers Subway To Sally on December 28 at "Stadtgarten", Erfurt in Germany. Just a quick event tip when you plan to visit Dublin during the next week. The IFSC district in Dublin see an original Oktoberfest , sponsored by Paulaner brewery. This event will run until October 10, 2010. Its worth to visit.   Nur mal ein kleiner Eventtipp falls Ihr plant Dublin in der nächsten Woche zu besuchen. Im IFSC District in Dublin gibt es ein original Oktoberfest  der Paulaner Brauerei. Das Event läuft noch bis zum 10. Oktober 2010. Es ist einen Besuch wert.

As you know, we spoiled ourselves to an extended weekend visiting counties Mayo, Galway and Clare in Ireland. We departed from Malahide early on Saturday and arrived in County Mayo at around midday, giving us ample time to explore the breath-taking Achill Island, one of Ireland's largest islands. From there we drove along the Atlantic coast and spent our first night in Hotel Westport, where apparently most Irish politicians including the current president usually reside. The next morning, we drove through the Connemara National Park and spent the 2nd night at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Galway. We even managed to stop for a pint in one of the pubs we went to on our first dating trip 5 years ago :-). On our way back to Dublin on Monday, we stopped at the famous 213m tall Cliffs of Moher. However, the visibility was not very clear due to strong Atlantic winds. All in all, it was a relaxing weekend that we still remember fondly. Sebastian has just uploaded a short video to our YouTube

After three very exciting days exploring Ireland's West we are now back in Dublin. As usual, a report, photos and a short video clip will follow soon. Next weekend we will kick off our "Shamrock" September tour. This leg will lead us to Achill Island, located in County Mayo on Saturday. Followed by an overnight stay in Westport, also County Mayo. On Sunday this route will continue through Connemara National Park, located on the border from County Mayo and County Galway. We will finish that day by staying in Galway City. The last day of this tour will take us down to Ireland's most popular cliffs - the Cliffs Of Moher in County Clare. All in all, we expect to travel around 870km. Sebastian recently started to learn guitar. According to him, his goal is to learn this instrument autodidactic and to be able to play at least two songs around Christmas time. Caroline is looking forward if this will really happen... Sebastian hat vor kurzem begonnen Gitarre zu lernen. Wie er selbst sagt, er will es sich das Instrument autodidaktisch beibringen und in der Lage sein mindestens zwei Songs um die Weihnachtszeit spielen zu können. We and among about 45,000 other supporters saw Argentina winning 1-0 against a fighting Irish team thanks to a very controversial - actually offsite - goal from Angel Di Maria in the 20th minute. We just got tickets for the first international soccer match at Dublin's new, monumental Aviva Stadium when the Republic Of Ireland takes on Argentina ( without Diego Maradona as he got sacked as coach last night ). The match will take place on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 and kick off is at 7.45pm.   Wir haben soeben Tickets für das erste internationale Fussball-Spiel in Dublin's neuen, monumentalen Aviva Stadium ergattert. She left Dublin for a business trip towards the US, precisely San Francisco, this morning.   8.186km (Luftlinie) ist die Distanz zwischen Dublin und der Stadt von der aus Caroline die nächste Woche arbeiten wird. The new Aviva Stadium , replacing the legendary Lansdowne Road Stadium, is now officially openend. The first international football match this stadium will host is a friendly between the Republic Of Ireland and Argentina on August 11, 2010. Will it be also a 4:0? Das neue Aviva Stadium , welches das legendäre Lansdowne Road Stadium ersetzt, ist nun offiziell eröffnet. We are just back from Düsseldorf where we had a great time. On Saturday, Germany experienced the hottest day in the year with temperatures close to 40 degrees and the national soccer team dumped Argentina in the Wold Cup quarter finals with 4:0. What else can one wish for? Das Wochenende haben wir in Düsseldorf verbracht. Gerade als Deutschland den heissesten Tag des Jahres mit Temperaturen um die 40 Grad erlebte und die Nationalelf Argentinien mit 4:0 überrollt hat. In anderen Worten: was will man mehr?

Our North America tour is now finalized. We will be back in the US and Canada from end of October to early November this year. Our plans will hopefully allow to visit cities such as Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Toronto and Washington.  Unsere Nordamerika Tour steht. Von Ende Oktober bis Anfang November werden wir wieder in den USA und Kanada sein. Unsere Pläne sehen Besuche einiger Städte wie Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Toronto und Washington vor.

Another, very spontaneous "mini trip" to Germany. We will head over to Düsseldorf on July 3. Ein weiterer, sehr spontaner "Mini Trip" nach Deutschland. Am 3. Juli werden wir uns nach Düsseldorf begeben.

As promised, a short report about our stay in Portugal's south - the Algarve. Surrounded by plenty of bizarre rocks, even at the beach, the Algarve is one of Europe's most beautiful places to visit. Sandy beaches and crystal clear water invite you to swim, to dive or just to lay in the sun. We stayed in a resort called Montinho De Ouro , about 85km from Faro's Airport, 3km from Praia Da Luz and 6km from breathtaking Praia Do Camilo. Most of the time was reserved for swimming and sunbathing (incl. a heavy sunburn), although we had time to visit towns like Lagos or Portimão. Highly recommended is a boat tour that takes you through all the caves along the coast. If you would like to enjoy the "last sausage before America" then you should visit Sagres and Cabo de São Vicente. Photos now available online here and a short video will follow once it's finalized. We're just back from Germany where we had a "mini break" with hot and sunny weather as well as with a delicious BBQ on last Saturday. We've been very lucky with the weather in Dublin of late. So we decided to visit the Deer Park in Howth this weekend to enjoy the May sun. This is located beside the Howth Castle and golf course famous for it's Rhododendron garden and panoramic views of both the Lambay and Eye of Howth islands from the top of the hill. Getting to the hilltop was not a big deal, but on our way downhill, we decided to take a different route and found ourselves walking for ~ 2 hours in a loop...   Schönes Frühlingswetter hatten wir in der letzten Zeit. Darum sind wir dieses Wochenende im Deer Park spazieren gegangen, um die Mai-Sonne zu geniessen. Der Deer Park befindet sich neben der Burg und dem Golfplatz in Howth, welcher für seinen Rhododendrongarten und traumhaften Blick auf Lambay Insel sowie Eye of Howth  berühmt ist. We used the long Bank Holiday weekend to head off to "Ireland's University City" Maynooth, located in County Kildare. Travelling by train, Maynooth is very easy accessible as it is an hour journey from Malahide. The city itself has plenty of gothic buildings, a cathedral and of course - the " St. Patrick's College ". Maynooth is also the seat of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference. It is worth a visit. Our tour schedule for 2010 becomes massive by now. The next stops will include the beautiful Carrickfergus Castle which is located in the north east of Belfast. After that we will head off for a 7-day discovery of Portugal's southcoast, the Algarve by the end of May to celebrate Caroline's birthday. And this is the freshest addition: a "mini break" in Dingelstädt in early June. Unser Tourplan für 2010 wächst und wächst. The Kenyan Boys Choir consists of 25 school boys, aged between 13 and 24, from various Kenyan backgrounds and tribes, brought together by their self-taught founder, Joseph Muyale. Formerly an independent collective, the choir gained widespread recognition and international media coverage in early 2009 after performing at Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony in Washington, D.C. The choir currrently tours the UK and Ireland to promote their new album "The Spirit Of Africa". As per our Easter tradition, we toured Ireland again this year. On Saturday, we headed off to Killiney, one of Dublin's most exclusive residential areas, where famous names like Bono, The Edge, Pat Kenny, Enya and Van Morrison reside. The photos of the area speak for themselves. On Sunday, we traveled out of Dublin to visit the southern Irish counties, starting with Wexford, where we had breakfast and walked around the harbor, before heading further to Waterford. We were surprised at how much the city center of Waterford looked so similar to a small German town.On our way back, we decided to stop at Kilkenny, where we were amazed at the Castle right in the middle of the town. We had a fabulous dinner in a restaurant and Sebastian didn't miss to order a Kilkenny... As usual, all photos can be found on our Photos website . Last Sunday we used the very nice spring weather and headed off to Newbridge House and Park , located in nearby Donabate. We also spent time at the traditional farm with plenty of animals like chickens, horses, cows and pigs. It is truly worth a visit. Pictures to follow soon.   Am letzten Sonntag haben wir das sehr schöne Frühlingswetter genutzt und sind zum Newbridge House und Park im nahegelegenen Donabate gefahren. Wir haben dort auch Zeit auf einer traditionellen Farm mit einer Fülle an Tieren wie Hühner, Pferde, Kühe und Schweine, verbracht. Ein Besuch dort lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Bilder gibt es bald.

Since winter is slowly but surely coming to an end, we decided to take a short cultural tour of one of Ireland's World Heritage Site, the 5000 years old tomb of Newgrange, which is situated a mere 30mins. drive from Malahide. One highlight of this megalithic site is the demonstration of the sun illumination by the winter solstice sunrise that lights up the chamber for appr. 17 minutes just before 9am. Please check out some of our photos here .     Da sich der Winter allmählich verabschiedet, haben wir uns ganz spontan entschieden, Newgrange zu besichtigen. Newgrange gehört zum ca. 5000 jährigen Weltkulturerbe Irlands und liegt ca. 30 Minuten Autofahrt nördlich von Malahide. Ein besonderer Moment in diesem Hügelgrab ist die Vorführung des Sonnenlichtstrahls, das an etwa 13 Tagen jeden Jahres um die Wintersonnenwende  bei Sonnenaufgang durch eine Öffnung über dem Eingang für ca. 17 min. in den Gang und die Kammer eindringt. As mentioned on Twitter , we intended to have a two-leg North American tour this year. However, the first part  has been postponed until 2011. The second leg will go ahead as planned, we just need to finalize the dates. The tour in May will be replaced with a tour all over Ireland. Wie in Twitter erwähnt, beabsichtigten wir auf eine zweiteilige Nordamerika Tour dieses Jahr zu gehen. Der erste Teil, der für Mai geplant wird auf 2011 verschoben. Der zweiteTeil allerdings läuft wie geplant. Nur der genaue Zeitraum muss noch festgelegt werden. Die Tour im Mai wird durch eine ausgedehnte Irland-Tour ersetzt.

Hola! After a rather "bumpy" start of the month, we've just returned from a well-deserved city break in Barcelona. This time around, we booked a hotel right in downtown, but also walking distance to the beach. The bus transfer to and from the hotel was more than perfect. After visiting the majority of Barcelona's major sights and drinking lots of Sangria, we spent the remaining days walking through the winding tiny streets between the magnificent catalonian buildings. With over 500 photos taken in 3 days, this is indeed one of Europe's romantic city. Hola! Nach einer kurzen "Pechsträhne" im Februar sind wir soeben aus einem wohl verdienten Valentinswochenende in Barcelona zurückgeflogen. Diesmal haben uns entschieden, ein Hotel mitten im Stadtzentrum zu buchen, das ebenfalls Fussweg vom Strand entfernt war. Der Bustransfer vom Flughafen verlief reibungslos. Nachdem wir die Sehenswürdigkeiten dieser Stadt besichtigt und ausreichend Sangria genossen hat

Finally, we decided where to travel over St. Valentine's day this year. The destination will be the Catalonian city of Barcelona.   Endlich haben wir entschieden wo es über das Valentinstags-Wochenende hingehen soll. Das Ziel wird die katalonische Stadt Barcelona sein.

Arctic weather conditions also arrived in Ireland for quite a while now. We are currently fighting with -7 to -10 degrees which is actually not too bad compared to the current weather in Continental Europe. However, what make things even worse is the fact that the Irish government is not prepared for such weather extremes. There are no winter tires or snow chaines available. They even ran out of salt last week. In fact, all roads are very icy and therefore very dangerous. It snows from time to time, but in the majority it is the freezing rain and fog that cause the problem. Despite that, the winter weather has also its nice sides. We enjoyed a few cold, but sunny days and went out for a walk in Dundalk, County Louth and in Donabate recently. Pictures to follow soon.
