This upcoming week is packed with culture for us. On next Thursday, December 4, we will head to the St. Patrick's Cathedral to see a performance of Händel's "Messiah" which is presented annually in Dublin since 1742. This is a charity concert and all proceeds are in aid of the "Bóthar" organisation in order to support an AIDS project in Zimbabwe. On Sunday, December 7, we will enjoy a concert of the world famous, New York-based Harlem Gospel Choir, supported by the Dublin Gospel Choir at Dublin's "Vicar Street". Ireland has lost his match 2-3 against Poland at Croke Park, Dublin and Germany (currently 2nd in the world ranking) stultified itself with 1-2 against a C-Team from England in Berlin. The "Homeless World Cup" is an international football (soccer) tournament, where teams made up entirely of homeless people compete. The event is held annually. It was at the end of the 2001 International Network of Street Papers Conference in Cape Town that Mel Young, Co-founder The Big Issue Scotland, and Harald Schmied, editor of Megaphon, a street paper in Austria, came up with the idea for the Homeless World Cup. They decided to make it happen and 18 months later the first tournament took place in Graz, Austria. It was such a success that they decided to do more. Back in 2005, the project was rewarded with the UEFA Charity Cheque with a value of 1 Million Swiss Franc. This great idea is widely supported by UNO, UEFA, Vodafone, Nike and many more. All donations benefit the project. The 2008 tournament will be held in Melbourne, Australia, December 1st to 7th, at two parks: Federation Square and Birrarung Marr. Two weeks ago we travelled over to Germany to visit Sebastian's Family in Dingelstädt/Eichsfeld and Arnstadt. We spent time in Dingelstädt with having two birthday parties (one of Sebastian's grandmother and one of Sebastian's parents neighbours). One day, the entire family went out for dinner at a Chinese restaurant, the rest of the days we tried to fill with relaxion. Also on the bill was a visit of Erfurt, including a concert of jazz titan and entertainer Götz Alsmann at the "Kaisersaal". Another highlight became our decision to rush to Berlin for one night approaching the newly-built "O2 World" to experience an exclusive live concert of American Heavy Metal superstars Metallica. After another couple of days relaxing in Dingelstädt we rounded our journey with a city break in Berlin before flying back to Ireland. We spent the last two days with sightseeing in Germany's capital, including the Brandenburg Gate, TV Tower etc. Overall, it was another

Caroline and Sebastian will travel to Germany in September. We will visit Sebastian's family in Dingelstädt . Apart from that we will move across Thüringen with its capital Erfurt and we will close our journey with a weekend stay in Berlin. Caroline und Sebastian werden im September nach Deutschland reisen. L ast we ekend we went for our "Pure Ireland" weekend across Northern Ireland, visiting Giant's Causeway on Saturday and across County Wicklow, visiting Glendalough on Sunday. We had a great time and plenty of sunshine and about 30 degrees air temperature. Photos and video clips will follow soon. The following places are planned to be visited: Giant's Causeway (Irish: Clochán na bhFómharach) is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) north of the town of Bushmills. After a very nice city break last weekend in Neuss and Düsseldorf we are back in Dublin. During our stay in "good old Germany" we had the chance to meet a couple of friends. On Friday we took the chance to go shopping in Düsseldorf City. We all went out on Saturday to visit a club called " Nachtresidenz " after a delicious dinner at one of the " Mongo's " restaurants close to Düsseldorf port. Sunday was relaxed and we went for a walk through Neuss. At around 9.30pm we travelled back to Dublin with AerLingus. As always, nice moments going over too fast... Once again, we decided to visit London and meet with Sebastian's parents for the weekend. We flew on Friday 20 th June with RyanAir from Dublin, they flew with AirBerlin from Paderborn and we met at Stansted . From their we took an express coach to Victoria station. Like last time, we stayed at the Millennium Hotel located at Gloucester road. We were unfortunate to arrive at rush hour at Victoria station, we were therefore glad to reach the quiet hotel. We had dinner at a nearby steakhouse, then watched the Croatia vs. Turkey match in the hotel room. On Saturday morning, Sebastian left with his parents after breakfast to visit Madame Tussaud's museum. I later on joined them at Piccadilly circus, after which we walked to the Westminster abbey, the Big Ben, the house of parliament and finally the tower bridge. After a very dirty campaign ("People have died for your freedom!"), Irish voters have rejected the Lisbon Treaty by a decisive margin. The result is a stunning setback for the Government and it has provoked a crisis in the European Union. The treaty was defeated by a margin of 53.4 per cent to 46.6 per cent, with 752,451 people voting Yes and 862,415 voting No. A great disappointment was the low turnout with only 53.1% of all registered voters who went out for voting. After a long time, we recently had a reason to celebrate again: our birthdays! We are fortunate to have birthdays exactly one week apart, as this makes it easier for us to remember each other's special day. Also, by coincidence, Sebastian's birthday happens to be our relationship's anniversary. So this makes the week between the 25th May and the 2nd June really special for us. As a short recap, this is what we did this year to celebrate our birthdays/anniversary: On Caroline's birthday, we went for dinner at Siam Thai restaurant in Malahide. This is a restaurant we've always wanted to try out cos it's adjacent to our old apartment right in the village of Malahide and with magnificent views of the Marina. As the pictures in the above link testify, it's got great ambience but unfortunately to our greatest dissapointment, the staff were the most unfriendly we've ever experienced in a restaurant. Currently a voting in regards to the " Lisbon Treaty " (compromiss solution in relation to the EU constitution) is ongoing in Ireland. Ireland is the only country in which a referendum is held. This referendum takes place in June and most of the parties are advertising either with "Vote Yes" or "Vote No" on the streets. Most of the parties are fine with it but the Irish people do not really know what is behind the campaign. Therefore they are irresolute. We will see the result in June 12, 2008. This Easter, we decided to travel around Ireland. After weighing between Donegal and Ring of Kerry, we decided to start with the famous Ring of Kerry as it might still be too cold for the Donegal coast, which is renowned for its wild Atlantic waves. To avoid the easter traffic, we left on saturday quite early. We were lucky indeed as there was hardly traffic all through the 5 hr drive. We stopped briefly at Valentia Island before checking in at Waterville in the early afternoon. We checked into Cliffords B&B , where we got a double room with a breathtaking sea view. Waterville is a small, peaceful village located at the southern west part of Ireland. We had pub lunch at "Lobster's" and long coastal walks the whole afternoon. In the evening we visited a pub that was playing live Irish music. Early the next morning, we embarked on our Ring of Kerry tour towards Killarney.
