Arctic conditions - bad and good sides

Arctic weather conditions also arrived in Ireland for quite a while now. We are currently fighting with -7 to -10 degrees which is actually not too bad compared to the current weather in Continental Europe. However, what make things even worse is the fact that the Irish government is not prepared for such weather extremes. There are no winter tires or snow chaines available. They even ran out of salt last week. In fact, all roads are very icy and therefore very dangerous. It snows from time to time, but in the majority it is the freezing rain and fog that cause the problem. Despite that, the winter weather has also its nice sides. We enjoyed a few cold, but sunny days and went out for a walk in Dundalk, County Louth and in Donabate recently. Pictures to follow soon.

Arktisches Wetter hat nun auch Irland seit geraumer Zeit erreicht. Im Moment kämpfen wir mit -7 bis -10 Grad was eigentlich nicht so schlimm ist im Vergleich zu Kontinentaleuropa. Was die Dinge allerdings verschlechtert ist der Fakt, dass die irische Regierung auf solche Wetterextreme nicht vorbereitet ist. Es gibt keine Winterreifen oder Schneeketten. Sogar das Streusalz ging in der vergangenen Woche aus. In der Tat sind alle Strassen sehr vereist und damit sehr gefährlich. Es schneit von Zeit zu Zeit, aber das eigentliche Problem wird von dem gefrorenem Regen und Nebel verursacht. Aber das Winterwetter hat auch seine guten Seiten. Wir haben ein paar kalte, aber sonnige Tage genossen. Diese haben wir genutzt, um Spaziergänge in Dundalk, Grafschaft Louth und Donabate zu machen. Bilder davon gibt es bald.

Winter in Ireland

Winter finally arrived also in Ireland. For the last couple of days we had temperatures as down as -9 degrees. Not spectacular for continental Europe around this time, however not that usual in Ireland. If you interested, check out this location for news and pictures. 

Der Winter ist nun auch in Irland angekommen. Die letzten Tage waren kalt, wir hatten Temperaturen von bis zu -9 Grad. Das ist nicht wirklich spektakulär für das kontinentale Europa zu dieser Zeit, jedoch ist es nicht so üblich in Irland. Falls Ihr interessiert seid, Bilder und Neuigkeiten gibt es hier.

2010 Tour Dates

We will follow our hobby - traveling around the globe - even in 2010. Next year we will focus on Eastern Europe (Poland, Latvia, Slovakia, Russia), United States and Canada. All dates need to be confirmed and destinations may vary. The first planning can be viewed below.
