Pure Ireland weekend
Caroline and Sebastian will head off to a journey to famous places within the Republic Of Ireland and Northern Ireland this weekend as part of the visit from Sebastian's parents. The following places are planned to be visited: Giant's Causeway (Irish: Clochán na bhFómharach) is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) north of the town of Bushmills. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, and a National Nature Reserve in 1987 by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. After Giant's Causeway: Carlingford. Carlingford is a picturesque, coastal village in northern County Louth. It is situated between Carlingford Lough (to the east) and Slieve Foy, sometimes known as Carlingford Mountain (to the west). Located on the R176/R173 roads between Greenore Point and Omeath townland, Carlingford is approximately 27 km north of Dundalk, 90 km north of Dublin and 11 km south of the border with Northern Ireland. To close the "Pure Ireland Weekend" we also plan to visit Glendalough. Glendalough (Irish: Gleann Dá Loch) is a glacial valley located in County Wicklow. Within it lies a ruined village containing a former monastery, which was founded in the 6th century by Saint Kevin, a hermit priest, and destroyed in 1398 by English troops. Glendalough is located about 60km south of Dublin.Caroline und Sebastian werden dieses Wochenende zu bekannten Sehenswürdigkeiten innerhalb der Republik Irland und Nord Irlands aufbrechen. Diese Reise wird ein Teil des Besuches von Sebastian's Eltern darstellen. Trips zu den folgenden Plätzen sind geplant: Giant's Causeway (Irisch: Clochán na bhFómharach) ist ein Bereich mit etwa 40.000 verriegelten Basaltsäulen, das Ergebnis eines altertümlichen Vulkanausbruches. Giant's Causeway befindet sich an der nordöstlichen Küste Nord Irlands, ungefähr 3km nördlich des Ortes Bushmills. Es wurde 1986 zum UNESCO Weltnaturerbe ernannt und 1987 wurde es vom Umweltministerium Nord Irlands zur nationalen Naturreserve deklariert. Nach dem Besuch dort steht ein weiterer Ort aif der Liste: Carlingford. Carlingford ist ein malerisches, küstennahes Dorf in der nörtlichen Grafschaft Louth. Der Ort liegt zwischen Carlingford Lough (östlich) und Slieve Foy, manchmal auch unter bekannt unter "Carlingford Mountain" (westlich). Gelegen ist der Ort an den Reginalstrassen R176/R173 zwischen Greenore Point und Omeath Townland. Carlingford liegt etwa 27km nördlich von Dundalk, etwa 90km nördlich von Dublin und 11km südlich der Irisch/Nord Irischen Grenze. Zum Abschluss des "Pure Ireland Weekend" planen wir ausserdem Glendalough zu besuchen. Glendalough (Irisch: Gleann Dá Loch) ist ein Gletschertal in der Grafschaft Wicklow. Innerhalb des Tales liegt ein Dorf aus Klosterruinen, welches im 6. Jahrhundert von St. Kevin, einem Priester gegründet wurde und 1398 von den Englischen Truppen zerstört wurde. Glendalough liegt etwa 60km südlich von Dublin.
